Is Natural Healing Effective?

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Foras Aje These days natural forms of healing and medicine have evolved into being so much more popular and more of a choice for the health seeker looking for ways to treat maladies. Perhaps this may be due to the many side-effects associated with most modern day drugs; however it does leave room for the question on whether natural healing is really effective in the first place? Well, from a guy who previously suffered from marring acne, asthma, lethargy and poor health, I will say natural healing does work, on the condition that it is applied correctly. Take a look at what I culled up online folks: An article on the web indicates that in 1997 Americans made 627 million visits to practitioners of alternative medicine and spent $27 billion of their own money to pay for alternative therapies. In contrast, Americans made only 386 million visits to their family doctor. Admittedly, even though conventional treatment by the medical fraternity does work well in the case of trauma and emergency, surveys are indicating that it is much less effective when it comes to prevention, chronic disease, and in addressing the mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of an individual. Moreover, the irony about alternative healing may be that its not so alternative after all, but rather the actual basis of the health care system. Heres an analogy to consider; Ayurvedic medicine uses diet, exercise, yoga, meditation, massage, herbs, and medication and, despite its long lineage, is as applicable today as it was 5000 years ago. For example, the seeds of the Mucuna pruriens plant have long been used to treat Parkinson’s disease in India; it is now receiving attention in conventional circles as it is more effective than l-dopa (the common Parkinsons disease drug) and has fewer side effects I will say natural healing can be all the more useful when one looks into detoxifying the body and adhering to a proper diet and lifestyle for health as perhaps nothing could be as responsible for disease and maladies as eating unhealthy food substances. So logic would depict that the cessation of such a practice and a replacement with a healthier and more productive choice is definitely the route to go. Well, as mentioned earlier, natural healing is gaining grounds in popularity and who knows in a few decades, not using this choice might be seen as the UNCONVENTIONAL approach. For now, heres to health. Foras Aje is an independent researcher and co-founder of BodyHealthSoul LLC. The Primary Social Dilemma of Our Time

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Rion Williams So what is it? It’s the power ‘role reversal’ of men and women. Is the nation headed down a path of female breadwinners and standby husbands? Don’t these men know that something is amiss? Don’t they feel ashamed in a way that their woman is leading the family or have they become accustomed to it so much that they don’t care? What happened to men of courage and character? Popular society now seems to favor the alpha male archetypes that are dangerous and bravado in their approval of female exploitation such as hip-hop’s superstars. Or is that maybe just because few balanced, masculine role models exist in a now female dominated social culture? After all, it is hard for the majority of men to have a role model anymore when they see the beta men on t.v. being saved by their super girlfriends. The polarization is often that if you’re not an abusive jerk, you’re probably just a nice guy who will succumb to any beautiful woman’s whim or desire just to be closer to her. Of course every man is different but we can look at the general overall trends that exist in our behavioral reality now. Do we look at the unique behavior of each man to determine his level of success with women? Does it come down to his different personality and interests? No. That’s too variable. We can look at the big picture. The men who are most effective with women and attracting them for physical relationships are guys that essentially weren’t conditioned by social influence. They retained their natural ability while the ‘nicest’ of guys had the MOST social influence and programming. Everyone is blaming everything but the actual root source of these problems in the first place; it’s social influence. Since society gave women ‘the power’, there has been a role reversal. Men became confused with women’s behavior at the same time as edifying it. With sexploitation, men become even more influenced by the social powers and don’t know how to be comfortable around women anymore because they’ve built up this perceptual fantasy world about a woman’s power. This further put them down the social hierarchy. Over years of programming, countless men started to become weaker and weaker especially in relation to the women they edify. They would withdraw into other outlets to let out this negative sexual transmutation. Pornography, strip parlors, the man show, his garage, poker night, dungeons & dragons, video games, etc. All of these industries that are capitalizing on the new economic reality of exploiting women yet conveniently giving women power at the same time. Millions of women have also fallen into this socio-economic cycle as well. Even those that aren’t as affected still take their level of empowerment and freedom for granted unless they feel it’s necessary to defend it. Millions of women daily live in a life where they no longer ‘need’ men. They have become the stimulus and become of the edification of women socially; they now receive all kinds of attention and can reject any man dismissively. No wonder men are distraught with confusion and sometimes depression. You can’t tame the shrew but for a moment. A woman who has developed so much has tasted too much of a new reality. You cannot take her back to her natural roots and make her pure again. She is a different creature than man and the only chance is to get her out of the society which (in many ways) has corrupted or empowered her (way beyond man) in the first place. The reality that these women will object to what I just said further proves my point. Do men want to live with this? Do they know what they’re getting into by wanting a goddess or diva? Do they know how much of their own power they would have to give up in order to accomodate her? Or had these men already lost it years ago because of this #1 social dilemma? A 50% divorce rate didn’t come from nowhere. I’m all for women who add value to other’s lives but when men don’t understand this behavior and where it comes from, there not going to be able to reach through to her for very long anyways. We cannot give up and let the nation slip into a reality where men have become weak in relation to women. These women are waiting for men to step up and at least be their equal in power. For a man to grow in character is more important than to have quick success with women because it’s part of what attracts and keeps women to him anyways. It’s time we have more men of character and strength who can see the yellow and red flags that women are showing and instead of being steamrolled over by women, stand up for their own reality. -Rion Williams Rion Williams is one of the foremost experts in dating advice, personal power and relational dynamics. Seduce Sexy Women Very EASILY: Learn To Create A Bit Of Mystery To Attract Girls You Want To Date

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Kenneth Oboh You may have heard several times before that women love aman who has a little bit of mystery about him. Well, we allknow that this is true but how exactly do you “create” thismystery when you’re with a woman you want to seduce? Firstyou have to realise how female psychology works on a basiclevel. You see, women are ALWAYS attracted to a man who they don’tknow much about, but who they can “gradually discover,”little by little. Think of it in terms of un-wrapping aChristmas present: You are excited to get it but you don’tknow what it is until you start to unwrap it, and as eachlayer comes off, the anticipation increases until you get tosee what the present is at the end. The reason why most men find it difficult to be mysteriousis because they approach women with “no wrapping” at all. It’s as if they present themselves “bare” and shout, “Here Iam, no need to discover me at all.” And once a guy putshimself in this position, he might as well rule out anychance of seduction. You “gotta” come in a colourful, interesting wrapping and I’m about to show you how to do it. Right, let’s assume you’ve met a girl you find attractiveand you start chatting with her. As long as you have somesort of a rapport or connection with her, it won’t be longbefore she starts asking you questions about yourself like,”What do you do for a living?” or “Where are you from?” Now, whenever a girl asks you personal questions, THAT ISYOUR CHANCE to demonstrate some mystery and show her thatthere is a “wrapper” that she has to take off before gettingto see the “real” you. So what I usually do at this point isthis: First, I never answer the question directly, I find away to make a joke about the question or give a ridiculousanswer. Now, it is very important here to be PLAYFUL withher when doing this or else you’ll come across as arrogantor immature. So for example, a woman might ask me shortly after we meet,”What do you do for a living?” I’ll reply “Oh me, I cleanthe dust off people’s shoes at the bus stop as they go towork in the morning.” And if she laughs at that I’ll saywith a straight face, (but still in a funny and playfulmanner) “What are you laughing at? I take my job veryseriously. What do YOU do, miss clever pants?” You see, sheknows I’m joking but by doing this I’m communicating twovery important things that build up a lot of mystery in hermind. I’m FORCING her to try to “unwrap” my complex layers. This really generates massive attraction in her subconsciousmind. This is interesting, I’m not telling her evensomething simple like my job and that begins to build theanticipation in her mind about who I am. Now, you will notice that I’m “teasing” her at the sametime, (women love to be teased), I’m showing her that I’vegot a great sense of humor as well as the mystery. SecondlyI’m communicating to her subconscious mind that I’m nottrying to impress her with my job, (she starts to see me asa secure man who doesn’t need to brag about his job or howmuch money he makes). Instead I’m throwing her an invitationfor HER to start impressing me (women are deeply attractedto men who are choosy about women, and that’s what I’m doinghere, while being playful with her). I hope you can see why I want her to “take the bait” andstart trying to impress me. By not telling a girl what shemight genuinely want to know about you, you’re prolongingthe mystery factor, and the longer you keep prolonging it,the more attracted to you she’ll get. And remember, you cando this with almost any personal questions she asks you, notjust your job. Of course as you get to know her a bit moreyou can begin to let her know a little bit more of you. Butmake her EARN it each time by her telling you more aboutHERSELF. This way, you get her to “unwrap” you only a littlebit at a time. Names Ringtones - Know Who is Calling You

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Philip_Nicosia]Philip Nicosia Phone models are getting fancier and fancier as mobile technology progress. More and more high tech features are being incorporated into phones like megapixel cameras, mp3 players, Bluetooth, video playback, among others. These additions are turning mobile phones into true convergence equipment. Not surprisingly, the accessories that are being put inside phones are also getting more sophisticated and try to keep abreast with these fast changes in mobile phone technology. Ringtones are a good example of this development. In terms of ringtone development, we have indeed come a long way from the ancient ringtones that were nothing more than glorified bleeps and rings. As mobile phones undergo their own technological evolution, so do the ringtones that we have been putting in our phones. From those literal RING tones, phones eventually carried melodic ringtones that you also have the option to compose on your own. Then came polyphonic ringtones that approximate midi files. Polyphonic ringtones were the first step toward the development of tones that actually simulate what it is to hear a song or actual melody in your phone. From there, MP3 ring tones or real tones became all the rage. You now have the chance to use your favorite song as a ringtone for your phone. Now ringtones have undergone another stage of evolution with the introduction and rising popularity of names ringtones. What are names ringtones anyway? They are personalised ringtones that you can download to your mobile phone. The difference here is that this type of ringtone contains the name of the caller, which you can then assign to the appropriate contact in your mobile phones phonebook. For example, you can buy a names ringtone that contains the name Amy and then use it by assigning it to Amy Brenner, a contact in your phonebook. Names ringtones are very convenient and useful to mobile phone owners because it automatically notifies you who is calling on your mobile phone without even looking at the screen. This kind of advantage did exist before because you can assign a dedicated ringtone to a particular contact. But the added advantage here is that, with a names ringtone, it brings customisation and personalisation a step further. There is something unique and refreshing to actually hear the name of the person you are calling as it gives your mobile phone the semblance of having an artificial intelligence reminiscent of those science fiction movies where futuristic gadgets announce who the caller is in their communications devices. A names ringtone brings the convenience of no-look recognition to callers that contact you on your mobile phone. The personalisation aspect is a big attraction to mobile phone owners. Phone owners love to do little things to their phones to put a personal stamp on an otherwise mass market device. They would change the phones casing, wallpaper, themes and even lights to reflect the individual taste and personality of the owner. With a names ringtone the personalisation enters the phonebook itself. Think Your Way to Weight Loss

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Charles Lewis Obviously sitting in a room and thinking about weight loss will not make you lose weight (unless you sit in the room for a few weeks without eating). However, we all know that the brain is the most powerful muscle in the body, so use your brain to think your way to weight loss. Albert Einstein once said that “The thinking that got us into our problems is not the thinking that will get us out.” Einstein was right, although I don’t think Albert Einstein was referring to weight loss. He was making that point that to make a change, you must change your way of thinking, and that concept certainly applies if you are trying to lose weight. Here’s an example of how we can use our brain to think our way to weight loss: start thinking about what you eat. Before you eat that fast food meal of a hamburger, fries, and a milkshake, think about what you are doing. Think about the calories you are consuming, and realize that those calories have very little nutritional value. Think about what other more healthy options you have for your meal. Think about why you want to lose weight. If you want to lose weight for your health, or your appearance, or your physical fitness, your brain can provide you with the added motivation to lose weight. Think about exercise as a way to lose weight. Research why exercise helps you burn more calories and get fit, which turns your body into a fat burning, weight loss machine. There is one certain fact when it comes to weight loss: if you don’t change the way you think about food and exercise, you won’t lose weight. It’s that simple. So focus on your brain, not your stomach, and get started on your weight loss plan today. As a weight loss success story, Charles Lewis writes about how to lose weight permanently without fads or gimmicks. Why Water Skiing and Fishing Don’t Mix

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

By A.J. Klott With the fourth of July weekend freshly behind us, I am reminded of one of the darker moments in a long and illustrious series of dark fishing moments…. Once upon a time, there was this young energetic outdoors type fella, who burned the recreational envelope to the bitter end. It was not uncommon for this naive- yet spunky- young man to participate in multiple outdoor activities on any given day. Fishing in the morning would yield itself to mountain biking, or hiking, or berry picking and then followed by the evening fishing du jour. A little grub, a little quenching of the thirst, perhaps a spirited game of cribbage, a short nap and soon it was time again to repeat the previous days repetoire. Those days are all but a memory now, and yet somehow- like fine wine- the memories ferment and settle, leaving a wonderful vintage of pleasant happenings. However, as afore mentioned, there are some rather embarrassing and somewhat painful times when in his zeal and zest for the outdoor experience, good judgement was cast aside or completely forgotten. One such instance came upon a nice summer’s day–twas the fourth day of the grand month of July–as I recall, when all sense and wits left his self.A.J.–as we will call our lad– was invited to a morning’s fish on a large and water filled reservoir in the region of Southern Oregon. The ships steward and captain had mentioned that it would be nice to cast about for trout in the morn and then take to the waters of the reservoir for a “skimming upon the surface with wooden planks”, of which most refer to- as water skiing. After a bountiful morning of much catch and frolic, the three jolly pranksters cajoled loudly about the fine and handsome trout which hung from yon stringer. Many a citizen would bow humbly before them and think of them certainly as masters of ther craft. Fishermen indeed!! Now, after a few celebratory quaffs of spirit, the lads were anxious to take to the ever inviting waters of the reservoir, “To the skis, men” harkened the ships captain. Soon, wooden planks were tossed to the sea, and one at a time the lads took to the water.Skimming and jumping and showing the versatiles of youth–the lads frolicked immensely.Thumbs were thrust skyward as the fishing boat, now turned ski boat, gained more power and speed. Oh what a time it was, the time of our youth–resplendid youth. Alas, the joy was broken suddenly–when young foolish A.J., queried as to the whereabouts of the days catch. Were they stored safely in the captains cool locker?Had they been stowed away in a water filled live well? Puzzled looks and questioning glares hung over the lads like an Irish fog, it was clear that the bouyant mood had been broken. Accusations flew, and responsibilities were shirked. Swords were ready to be drawn…. had there been any swords. AND, a good thing there were no swords, for after inspecting the stringer, the very same stringer which had once held the hopes and prayers of a hungry fish camp of merry men and women- it was found that the stringer was now void of fish!! Nothing but a few gill plates remained. Much remorse was felt amongst the lads, and a futile but heartfelt retracing of the boats whereabouts was undertaken. To no avail. The fine and handsome trout had either sunk to the depths of the unforgiving waters of the reservoir, had wound up prey to the many a swift fish hawk that hunted these waters, or were back swimming happily beneath the surface…sans a full gill plate. A dour feeling hung over the crew, and great shame stood in the place where pride once brimmed so brightly. Candor, and speculation ensued. Had the fish kept up for a while, hanging on with every bit of there very facial fiber as they slapped across the surface, like little water skiers themselves? Did they vanish and scatter to the wind upon the first thrust of the boats great motor? It matters not. For they were gone, GONE, GONE!! Should there be a need for a moral to this tragic and wasteful tale, let it be known: that if you plan to water ski and fish on the same day, in the same boat –be sure to place your fish IN the boat before transitioning to your next recreational pursuit. Maybe just maybe if you heed these words, you can avoid the pitfalls of youth like these lads were so unmercifully forced to endure. A tragic tale indeed… A.J. Klott Author, writer of fishing humor, and “fly tack” peddler.A.J. writes about the people, characters and modern day events that surround the fishing world. His first book is due out in December of 2005. Do you have a Weight Loss Goal - REALLY?

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Mubarakah Ibrahim Saying I want to lose weight is not enough. I hear that a hundred times but only about 5% of people really commit themselves to achieving their goal. I dont think many people understand commitment, whole hearted commitment. When everything you do and I mean everything, becomes a small step towards that commitment. Happiness can be defined, in part at least, as the fruit of the desire and ability to sacrifice what we want now for what we want eventually. - Stephen Covey You must first mentally commit to changing. Dispel of all of the negative thoughts of why you can not change. Why you have not made the necessary changes for healthy eating habits. Write each of them down on a sheet of paper. I do not have time. I have always been big and I always will be big. Im too old to start now. I do not have the energy. What ever you reason, take this time right now and write them on a piece of paper. Now take that piece of paper and fold it in half, then in quarters. Now begin to rip it. Shred it, tear it, destroy it. No more excuses from this point on. Every obstacle that has gotten in your way is simply an opportunity to be creative, a chance to prioritize your health. A time for you to prove to yourself that you are important to. obstacles are a natural part of life. Just as boulders are natural part of the course of the river. The river does not complain or get depressed because there are boulders in its path. - I Ching You must use clearly define your goals by answering the following questions. What is your goal? Why? How do you want to feel? Why? What do you want to look like? Why? What will happen if you did not achieve your goal in 10 years? Now read over your answers and decide if they are realistic. Are they based on other people, such as a movie star or a friend. (I want a butt like Jennifer Lopez) Stephen Covey profoundly wrote in his boot 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,Its a principle that all things are created twice, but not all first creations are by conscious design. In our personal lives, if we do not develop our own self-awareness and become responsible for first creations, we empower other people and circumstances outside our circle of influence to shape much of our lives by default. We reactively live the script handed to us by family, associates, other peoples agendas, the pressures of circumstances-scripts from our earlier years, from our training, our conditioning. We must recognize the scripts that foster our perception of what we should look like, what we should eat, how we should act. Recognizing the social circumstances that we fall into that foster those unhealthy choices, and then stop those behaviors. Now that you have clearly defined you goals you must live each day with effort to achieve that goal. Not some days, not half the time but rather each and every day. Stephen Covey profoundly wrote in his boot 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, as Habit 2 Begin with end in mind Each day you get up you must begin with the end in mind. Keep you goal posted somewhere that you can see it. If you live with others in the house post it in a semi-private location, like your bedroom wall. Each morning remind yourself that everything you do today will get you one step closer to that goal. Talk to yourself. Yes out loud and audible. Name 1 specific things you will do to get closer to that goal. For example: Today I will: 1. eat fruit with every meal, 2. drink at least 12 ounces of water with every meal, 3. And when I go out to dinner tonight I will request that the waiter substitute the white rice with and extra serving of. 4. Go to the 5:30 body sculpting class at the gym. Making concrete commitments to yourself is the first step to making a long term commitment to develop new habits and life long healthy habits. Antibiotics and Chinese Medical Herbs

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By Kitty Bradshaw On a radio program about childrens ear infections a pediatrician, and a practitioner of Oriental Medicine were asked by the interviewer, “What causes ear infections”? The pediatrician talked about exposure in the day-care centers, or contact infection from siblings, while the Oriental Medicine practitioner (Dr. Jake Fratkin) suggested that, Children who use antibiotics have a higher incidence of a repeat infection within six weeks than those who dont use antibiotics.” Fratkin went on to say that, “children who never take antibiotics rarely get ear infections, and offered the following key points: Children who take antibiotics have repeat infections; partly because ear infections become drug resistant very quickly, and because antibiotics directly injure the immune system. While intending to target pathogenic bacteria, antibiotics also wipe out beneficial intestinal bacteria. Antibiotics interfere with the production of white blood cells, which weakens the immune system and impedes the body’s ability to combat infection. Dr. Fratkin also pointed out that, “all common epithelial infections of the nose, throat, ear, lungs, skin, urethra and bladder can be successfully treated with Chinese herbal medicines.” A strong point when you consider, “that many common epithelial infections are viral rather than bacterial” and antibiotics have next to no impact on viral infections. So keep in mind, that while there are special circumstances where the use of antibiotics are necessary, there are many more instances where they’re being used unnecessarily, and harming the immune system. In his experience, Dr. Fratkin found that Chinese medical herbs are an effective alternative for treating many common infections. Kitty Bradshaw is a licensed acupuncturist, with an advanced clinical degree in Oriental Medicine. Burn Fat While You Sleep? Forget It

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By Gabe Mirkin, M.D. Please dont be taken in by ads that claim theit product will cause you to burn fat instead of sugar while you sleep. Even if the pills worked, you burn so few calories during sleep that it is irrelevant whether you are burning sugar or fat. Your body burns primarily fat and sugar for energy. The harder you exercise, the more sugar your muscles use. You use the lowest percentage of fat when you exercise and the highest percentage when you sleep. Your body converts fat into sugar and sugar into fat, so the crucial factor is how many calories you burn, and not whether you burn more fat or sugar. For example, the average 150 pound person burns about 60 calories an hour during sleep, compared to more than 600 calories per hour while jogging. If you burn 80 percent fat during sleep, you will burn 48 calories of fat or one fifth of an ounce. If you burn 50 percent fat when you exercise, you will burn 1.3 ounces of fat per hour or more than six times as much. There are many products on the market today that promise to help you lose weight. None will have any lasting effect unless they get you to exercise more and eat fewer calories. If you are serious about losing weight, learn to eat lots of vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans; avoid concentrated sources of fats, especially saturated fats and partially hydrogenated oils; and stay away from refined carbohydrates (foods made with any type of flour, white rice or milled corn, and all added sugars). Start a vigorous exercise program that you can continue for the rest of your life. Forget about diet gimmicks; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Dr. Gabe Mirkin has been a radio talk show host for 25 years and practicing physician for more than 40 years; he is board certified in four specialties, including sports medicine. Devotional Thought - The Branch

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Faithe Thomas I prayed while I was walking up a mountain in Glorieta, New Mexico. As I reached the summit, I meditated on John 21:15-17 where Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him. How would I answer that question? Do you love Me? I obey you, Lord, so I must love you. Do you love Me? I listen to you when you speak to me. Do you love Me? I dont know how. I had not loved God as I should: with all my heart, and with all my soul, and with all my strength, and with all my mind; and my neighbor as myself, as taught in Luke 10:27. I cried a while and asked God for His training in the area of love. As I started down the mountain, I walked a bit too close to a pine tree and my shoulder snapped off a branch. I was amazed at how brittle it was. But not all the branches were that way. Those that still had life in them were flexible and tender. Then I noticed that the branches without life had been damaged and were not firmly connected to the tree. It reminded me of Jesus discourse in John 15 where He says, I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch, and dries up. As I abide in Him, Gods love can infuse me and make me tender. Then I learn not only how to love God, but also how to love others. —- Faithe Finley Thomas lived as a missionary in Ghana, West Africa for six years.
